I wanted to send you a quick note from Saturday’s OpenAI Build Week session in Spokane.

The best part was not a tool demo. It was watching people connect AI to real work.

The idea that landed was simple: you do not have to wait for a software company to notice your edge case. If you can explain the problem, the workflow, the constraints, and the result you want, AI can help you design and build something useful.

The example we used was a service business with a scheduling problem. Customers thought a work date was a promise. The business knew weather, equipment, and job conditions could move the date. More reminders did not solve it. A better customer-facing status tool did.

People built a wide range of practical projects in the room: a chief-of-staff dashboard, social media posting from an author’s book, a tennis stats tracker, screenwriting software, a disease-sequence search and assay design tool for local DNA work, a public domain library recommendation system, a privacy tracker extension, and a real estate research skill.

That is the kind of work I like helping people do.
